Eligibility Checklist

Receive nationally recognised trade training
Join the ADF and learn a trade. You&rsquo;ll receive all the training you need, be paid while you train and can earn industry-recognised qualifications. 
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those seeking nationally recognised trade training to undertake hands-on tasks.

You'll be paid while you study. On completion of your degree, Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you'll earn at least:

In the Air Force you'll be paid a good salary from day one regardless of your age, experience or qualifications.

General Entry: Technical

As an Aircraft Structural Technician, you&rsquo;ll consolidate your IET with on-the-job training and work towards a nationally-recognised qualification. You could expect to complete the requirements for the Certificate IV in Aeroskills (Structures) within 24 months of graduating from your IET.
Selection for Advanced Technician (Aircraft Welding) Course
Upon completion of a minimum 12 months training consolidation as an Aircraft Structural Technician, you could be selected to undergo Aircraft Welding Specialist training. This training is conducted at RAAFSTT and upon completion of the course, you graduate as an Aircraft Structural Technician (Welding). 
<div class="p">Alternate career pathway to Non-Destructive Inspection Technician (NDITECH)</div>
You’ll also be provided with an opportunity to undergo competitive selection and training leading to remuster to NDITECH. Once you complete NDI training, you will progress from NDITECH Grade 1 to Grade 2, then progress through the ranks to Warrant Officer in competition with other NDITECH members.

As an Aircraft Structural Technician, you’ll be responsible for the maintenance, repair and certification of aircraft and aircraft components. One day could see you working on a P-8A Poseidon, the next a C-17A Globemaster III or F-35A Lightning II aircraft. It’s a highly rewarding and varied role. There's nothing quite like seeing an aircraft you’ve personally repaired take flight.

Working in the workshop or on the tarmac as part of a team of highly skilled professionals, you&rsquo;ll maintain, service and repair structural components on some of the world&rsquo;s most advanced military aircraft. Working in a team of skilled technicians, you&rsquo;ll manufacture and repair metallic and composite constructions, apply and repair stealth coatings, and weld ferrous and non-ferrous aeronautical metals.&nbsp;

Keep some of the world's most advanced military aircraft in peak operating condition by using your skills to manufacture, install and repair their key structural components.
