Eligibility Checklist

Use your specialisation and become a leader in your field
If you&rsquo;re already qualified in healthcare, finance, law, chaplaincy, management, aviation, engineering or education, you can join the ADF part-time as a Specialist Reserve.
Who it&rsquo;s for:&nbsp;Those who are a specialist in specific fields.

This entry method is currently not recruiting.

You'll be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

Your daily rate once trained

The pay you receive in the Air Force Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax.

Officer Entry: Specialist Reserve

Specialist Medical Officers currently complete the following courses:
<ul>
<li>Deployed Surgical Trauma Course (DSTC) or Emergency War Surgery Course</li>
<li>Early Management of Severe Trauma</li>
<li>Collective training with other members of the unit.</li>
</ul>

As a part-time Medical Officer (Ophthalmologist), you'll provide specialist aviation medical support to the Air Force and wider ADF. You'll provide essential ophthalmological services that directly support air and ground operations.

You’ll play a vital role in ensuring the vision health of our pilots and aviators. As a result, your expertise will support Air Force missions by helping to maintain optimal eye health. You’ll deliver specialised ophthalmological care to Air Force members, provide expert advice and support to Air Force doctors and health professionals, and contribute directly to aviation medicine. 

In addition, you’ll take on a leadership role managing and leading a health logistics team and providing advice to commanders and higher command.

Play an integral role in supporting aviation medicine on a part-time basis, directly impacting the ADF’s ground and air operations.
