Public Health Physicians are employed in a headquarters environment such as Directorate of Army Health, which is located in Canberra. The role would include project type work, providing advice from a remote location (if not Canberra based). There is the scope for travel to headquarters in this positions, if specialist advice is required.

You will be paid to train and on completion of your Initial Military Training and Initial Employment Training, you’ll earn a tax-free daily rate of at least:

As a Public Health Physician in the Army Reserve, you will have the opportunity to use your existing qualifications and skills in an exciting new way. This part-time, flexible position offers time commitments that fit around your lifestyle.

In this role, you will advise on disease prevention and illness, as well as promote the health needs of our people and their families. Using your training in clinical and public medicine, you will be able to offer guidance in a range of health matters, including health promotion, assessments, and health services for smaller communities where needed. You will also contribute to vital public health research on behalf of the Defence Force.

Public Health Physicians in the Army Reserve can work locally. There are bases across Australia, so you do not have to move away from home in order to contribute. There may be opportunities for you to deploy overseas to utilise your specialist skill set, but the choice is yours.

The Australian Army employs a range of medical professionals and specialisations to work in Army Medical Units. Public Health Physicians are part of the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps (RAAMC). The RAAMC is tasked with providing quality health care to the Australian Army with the mission of ensuring the conservation of its people through medical means.
